Photojournalism: Dhows of Dubai

The Bur Dubai creek cuts through the center of Dubai. Juxtapositioned against a gleaming skyline, the river is a reminder of the past in the very modern present.

There are two prominent features of the creek. One is the Dhows, the traditional Arab sailing vessel still used to transport goods along ancient trade routes in the Middle East, India and Africa.

The other is the water taxis or abras, ferrying people to and fro over the river in sometimes chaotic but always colourful conditions.
